Using digital interventions to ensure robust vaccine supply chains in Senegal: Field experiences from the Empower: Logistimo Collaboration

Empower, in collaboration with Logistimo and Gavi, is supporting Senegal’s Ministry of Health & Social Action to train healthcare staff in hospitals and clinics across the country to adopt an innovative digital service that will help reduce wastage and improve efficiency across the supply chain. The Vaccines Supply Chain Management Pilot currently covers 2 regions (Dakar and Diourbel, that account for 32% of the Senegalese population), across 341 health facilities.

Project Performance (Phases I and II)

Empower has conducted training sessions for over 360 Senegalese national, regional, district, and last-mile facility users to ensure efficient use and uptake of the digital service targeted to improve the national vaccine supply chain.

The overall project objective is to remove supply-side logistics as an obstacle to immunization coverage, thereby helping Senegal improve immunization coverage and decrease infant mortality. The project has already demonstrated increased availability of vaccine stocks and <1% vaccine inventory is currently stocked out in the health facilities.
